Heat treatment furnace
We were tasked with designing and manufacturing a compliant heat treatment facility for forged aerospace components.
Large pipes destined for use in the power generation industry require heat treating after extrusion to relieve stresses created during forming, and to produce the required metallurgical properties.
To ensure the highest quality required for this application, the temperature distribution within any furnace used for this process has to be extremely uniform.
We were tasked with designing, manufacturing and installing a heat treatment furnace with a uniformity of +/-10°C, operating at temperatures between 600°C and 1150°C.
Given the long life expectancy of the furnace, fuel efficiency was made a priority in the design to minimise operation costs.
Consequently, heat recuperation technology and low thermal mass principles were incorporated into the design of the unit.
