A global aerospace engine manufacturer has awarded Magma Combustion Engineering for designing and installing 2 furnaces at one of their UK sites. The furnaces have complex hydraulic systems incorporated within them, for allowing the shaping of engine blades to an extremely tight tolerance. The new furnaces will be designed to allow production of a range of sizes of components whilst having reduced footprints against previously installed furnaces to allow for more space for other operations within the business. The design also includes CFD studies being performed to ensure the optimum uniformity within the furnace chamber and also FEA studies for the mechanical stresses of pressing at a force of 50 Tonnes whilst at operating temperature.
